A woman is recovering after she was shot during an attempted robbery in the Mantua section of the city.
Police say the 49-year-old woman was walking on Poplar and North State Streets early Saturday when she was approached by an unidentified man.
Police say the man tried to take her purse and then fired two shots. One shot struck the woman in the left thigh.
The man fled the scene without taking the purse. Police say he drove off in a burgundy Impala.
The woman was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where she is in stable condition.
