Police in Philadelphia say there were fewer violent crimes committed in the city last year than any other since 1979.
The Philadelphia Inquirer reports authorities have attributed the decline to the increased use of technology in combatting crime along with successful deployment and patrol strategies.
In addition, the overall crime rate is lower now than it was 20 years ago nationwide.
Commissioner Richard Ross says the encouraging statistics are a step in the right direction but police will continue their quest to drive them lower.
The amount of shooting incidents reported in Philadelphia in 2016 was the lowest total in six years, but the number of gunshot victims was the highest since 2011.
Ross says police are still not happy with the level of gun violence plaguing the city. [[238427591, C]]
