Arrest in Delaware County Mother's Death

Authorities outside Philadelphia are expected to announce an arrest Thursday in the strangulation death of a Delaware County woman.

Police in Upper Darby had been seeking the man since the body of 38-year-old Masako Griffin was found Aug. 3 in her home along Emerson Road.

Upper Darby Superintendent Michael Chitwood said the 38-year-old suspect Deschae Lowry arrived at a police station in Jacksonville, Florida, covered in blood from self-inflcted wounds. Lowry told police he wanted to die and he was in the dead woman's car.

Officials said he was held on a driving under the influence count, and Upper Darby police accused him of auto theft and of violating a protection from abuse order obtained by the woman. Chitwood say that Griffin got five separated protection from abuse orders against Lowry -- the last less than a month before her death.

Chitwood said police had been called to the home a number of times following domestic disputes.

Though Griffin's body was found on Aug. 3, investigators believe he killed Griffin two days earlier.
