2 Hurt in Shootout Outside Philly Bar After Kicked Out Patrons Return

Two men, kicked out of a Philadelphia bar overnight, returned and opened fire more the one dozen times, in a shootout that left two people hurt.

The incident played out shortly before 1 a.m. Saturday at the Triple Play Bar & Grille along W Hunting Park Avenue near Germantown Avenue in Philly’s Nicetown section when security guards kicked out a group of five men -- three got into a Nissan Maxima nearby.

“Moments later these males returned, they jumped out of car and at least one of them fired approximately 16 shots at the patrons and the employees that were outside of the bar,” police Capt. Drew Techner.

The two private security guards returned fire – shooting at least 24 more rounds of ammunition -- striking the sedan before it drove off, said Techner.

A short time later, a man turned up at Einstein Medical Center in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the stomach.

“We don’t know if that male was a suspect or if he was a patron here when this all occurred,” said Techner.

Police also found a patron at the scene suffering from a gunshot wound to the ankle.

A shot up Nissan Sentra was also left near the bar. The car had been carjacked from the 4500 block of Front Street just minutes earlier.

The security guards, who are licensed to carry, cooperated with investigators. Police also hoped that surveillance images would help answer questions.
