Trenton Police are on high alert after receiving a tip that gang members planned to shoot a foot post officer.
Police say a a foot patrol officer was told that gang members were targeting police.
Then on Monday night, the department made the decision to pull foot patrols off the streets of Trenton for their safety.
That comes on the heels of the layoff of more than 100 Trenton police officers in September due to budget cuts.
Trenton Police say they will keep the foot patrols off the street until they determine just how real the threat against them is.
They continue to investigate the gang threat.
