Swarthmore College Gets Historic $50 Million Dollar Donation

NBC Philadelphia

Swarthmore College has just received a $50 million dollar donation.

It is the largest donation, ever in the school's 148-year history.

The money came from alumnus and well-known philanthropist Eugene Lang.

It will be used to create new engineering and science facilities, as well as to strengthen the curriculum of other liberal arts programs.

Lang, who is 93-years old, graduated from Swarthmore in 1938 with a degree in economics.
This is not his first donation to the Delaware County school. In 1997, Lang donated $30 million dollars to Swarthmore to support academic programs, financial aid campus facilities.

Prior to 1997, Lang had given about $20 million dollars to the private liberal arts college over the course of 30 years.
