Delaware State Senator Files Campaign Finance Report

Democratic state treasurer candidate Sean Barney has filed a campaign finance report for the primary election cycle that ended earlier this month.

Barney on Tuesday reported raising about $10,700 in the three weeks ending Sept. 1, while spending about $13,500. Republican Ken Simpler earlier reported raising about $14,600 while spending more than $122,000.

Such reports were due three weeks ago, but Delaware's elections commissioner said Barney didn't have to file a final primary report because incumbent Chip Flowers had quit the race, meaning there was no primary.

But commissioner Elaine Manlove then ruled two weeks ago that Barney could take advantage of separate fundraising limits for both the primary and general election periods, even though there was no Democratic primary election. That led to Barney filing a final primary report.
