School Opening 2 Weeks Late Because of Mold

A Cheltenham middle school is opening two weeks late because of a mold problem.

The Philadelphia Inquirer says school district officials announced that Cedarbrook Middle School in Cheltenham will open on Sept. 16. Crews are continuing to remove mold from the campus.

School officials say in a letter to parents and teachers that the mold was discovered in some classrooms and hallways by maintenance crews in July, and remediation efforts are underway for the entire building.

Superintendent Natalie Thomas says an independent environmental auditor will have to certify air-quality levels before anyone can return to the building.

School starts Sept. 3 for the rest of the Cheltenham Township School District.
