A hunter possibly inadvertently caused scare at a South Jersey elementary school, according to police.
Authorities placed a Gloucester Township grammar school under a precautionary lockout after a parent reported hearing gunshots in nearby woods.
Township police responded to the J.W. Lilley Elementary School on Williamstown Road Wednesday morning. Officers didn't find anything after conducting a large-scale search of the surrounding area.
No students were hurt.
There were reports of a hunter in the area -- special deer hunting permits were issued for this week.
Police say the school is open and the investigation is ongoing.
