A dozen people were evacuated from their South Philadelphia neighborhood after a gas leak this afternoon.

Philadelphia fire officials tell NBC10 that a meter was ripped out of a house on the 2300 block of South Franklin Street and that's what caused the gas leak.

Nine homes in total were briefly evacuated.

People were allowed back inside their homes about an hour later.
