A suspicious device caused the evacuation of the Haverford Place Apartments in Wilmington Thursday.
The device turned out to actually be a bomb, according to firefighters. But, they didn't say if it was a pipe bomb or not.
Police and the bomb squad were called to the 4600 block of Haverford Place around 3 p.m. for the report of a suspicious device in the hallway of a building. About 50 people were evacuated as bomb-sniffing dogs were called in, according to the Delaware Fire Marshal's Office.
The device was removed and exploded and the site declared safe, authorities said.
Residents were allowed back in their homes around 7 p.m. No one was hurt.
Anyone with information on how the explosive device wound up in the apartments is asked to contact the fire marshal at 302-323-5375 or call Crimestoppers at 1800-TIP-3333.
