Gov. Jack Markell and U.S. Sen. Tom Carper are joining members of the Delaware Volunteer Firefighter's Association at the group's annual conference in Dover.
Markell and state lawmakers planned to gather at Dover Downs hotel on Friday for the firefighter's associations appreciation luncheon to thank volunteer firefighters for their service.
Carper, who is a co-chair of the Congressional Fire Services Caucus, also was scheduled to address firefighters and the Ladies' Auxiliary.
The DVFA conference began Saturday. The gathering mixes social events with a variety of educational classes for firefighters and seminars on topics ranging from equipment maintenance and fire photography to pensions and bookkeeping requirements.
