Officer Who Shot Self Will Return to Work

A New Jersey police officer who accidentally shot himself inside his parked police vehicle will soon be back at work.

Officials say the Flemington police officer who apparently shot himself by accident plans to return to work next week.

The Hunterdon County Prosecutor's Office says Detective Sgt. William Svard sustained a minor leg injury when his duty weapon apparently discharged accidentally last Thursday afternoon. Svard was sitting in a police vehicle in a parking lot in Raritan Township at the time.

Svard was transported to a nearby hospital in stable condition.

Officials are still investigating the incident trying to figure out how a police officer accidentally discharged his department-issued firearm.
