Argument Leaves Woman Beaten to Death With Hammer

A woman died from her injuries after she was beaten to death with a hammer during an argument with her boyfriend in North Philadelphia Sunday, according to investigators.

Izesha Gateward died inside a second-floor apartment on the 2500 block of North 17th Street around 5 p.m. Police initially told NBC10 the 32-year-old woman was shot to death. They later said however that she was beaten over her head and body with a hammer.

The initial investigation revealed that Gateward and her boyfriend got into verbal fight that turned physical, said police.

The incident occurred about 1.5 miles away from a shooting inside a Church's Chicken restaurant. Police told NBC10 they don't believe the two incidents are related however.
