A salt truck was reduced to a charred shell after catching fire early Thursday.

The Cape May County truck was rolling along the Route 52 causeway just north of 9th Street in Ocean City, NJ when the fire started in the engine area, police say.

Firefighters responded to the scene just after 1:30 a.m. and put out the flames. No one was injured, police say.

The roadway was closed as crews work to clean up the mess.
