Minor Earthquake Shakes Lancaster County

A minor earthquake hit Lancaster County, PA just after midnight Saturday, according to the U.S. Geographic Survey.

The 3.4 magnitude quake was centered near Salunga-Landisville, PA, which is about 7 miles from Lancaster and 67 miles from Philadelphia.

The tremor struck at a depth of 2.5 miles below the Earth’s surface, according to the USGS.

There have been some reports of minor damage in the area.

Contrary to popular belief, Pennsylvania is not immune to seismic activity. Shaking has been reported in the Lancaster area since colonial times, typically happening once or twice a decade, according to the USGS.
