Students in one central Pennsylvania district heard their first school bell of the year on Wednesday.
A 27-day teachers strike postponed the start of classes in Millville. Teachers have returned now that their union and the school board are headed to non-binding arbitration.
A union representative says teachers have been working without a contract since 2012. He says the bargaining dispute involves wages, health care costs and professional development incentives.
School was originally supposed to start six weeks ago, on Aug. 20. Now, students will get only four vacation days — instead of 18 — for the rest of the school year.
