A New Jersey prison inmate has been sentenced to seven years for fatally injuring another inmate during a fight last summer.
Floyd Nichols, a 24-year-old Paterson resident, previously pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of Joshua Jones. He was sentenced Friday.
Hunterdon County prosecutors say the two men fought in a unit at the Mountainview Youth Correctional Facility in Clinton Township on Aug. 14.
Jones, a 23-year-old Englewood resident, suffered a severe head injury after collapsing onto the concrete floor. He was flown by helicopter to a hospital, where he died two days later.
Jones was convicted of possession of a handgun and distributing drugs in a school zone. He would have been eligible for parole in January.
Nichols also was serving time for drug and weapons offenses.
