Wilmington police say a man has been found dead on a sidewalk in the city's northeast section.
Master Sgt. Steven Barnes says the man was found by a pedestrian about 5:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 1600 block of Jessup Street. He says the man's identity has not been released pending the
notification of family members.
Barnes says the man was found with a bullet wound to his chest and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Wilmington News-Journal reports that the slaying brings the city's homicide total to 25 -- just one shy of 2008's all-time high. The tally does not include two vehicular homicides.
