$4.50.

For just over four dollars, SEPTA driver Estebon Santiago got pummeled in the head, eye and face. It was more than he bargained for.

Santiago, 47, was driving the Route 124 bus back on April 2 when he made a stop in King of Prussia. Two teens jumped onboard bound for Center City, but when the driver asked for their fare, the teens began to argue saying they couldn't pay, according to police Thursday.

As a compromise, Santiago offered to let the teens stay on the bus while they searched for their money.

An hour later the bus arrived at 12th and Market Streets in Center City, but the teens refused to pay. That's when it turned violent.

"There were blows coming left and right, left and right," recounted Santiago Thursday night. "I'd say about eight blows."

With witnesses watching one of the teens beat on the driver before running down the street. Surveillance video caught the attack including clear pictures of the thugs, but so far police have had no leads.

They are hoping the bus video will help someone come forward. Anyone with information on the suspects or the crime is asked to call police at 215-686-TIPS.

As for Santiago, he has since recovered and is back on the job.
