Husband Allegedly Struck by Wife Dies

The death of a 73-year-old southern New Jersey man who was struck by a car driven by his wife has been ruled a homicide.

Deputy Chief Michael Mohel of the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said an autopsy performed Sunday determined that John McNulty of Little Egg Harbor died of head trauma.

McNulty was struck early Friday while walking to a nearby bus stop and died several hours later. Witnesses said McNulty's 54-year-old wife, Karen, drove near her husband before passing him, then made a U-turn and hit him with the vehicle.

Karen McNulty was arrested at the scene and charged with aggravated assault, but that was upgraded Saturday to aggravated manslaughter.

She remained jailed Sunday on $500,000 bail, and it was not known if she had retained a lawyer.
