The Hamilton Animal Shelter will hold the grand opening of its new extension on Wednesday.
Township Mayor Kelly Yaede announced her plans for the extension in early 2014, saying that the extension would allow the facility to double its previous capacity for stray animals.
The expansion adds 16 more dog kennels and 25 more rooms for stray cats. The expansion also provided a larger medical area and quarantine areas, two new adoption rooms, and a grooming area, according to a press release.
Also according to the press release, the expansion was a “cost-effective” way to deal with stray animals, since it was $500,000 less than the cost of construction of a new facility.
