A North Philadelphia teen that admitted to being the ringleader of a group of teenagers who assaulted a Starbucks manager in a center city subway concourse has been sentenced to prison.
Arthur Alston, 18, was sentenced to 10-20 years in prison after admitting to throwing the first punch at Sean Patrick Conroy, 36, at random in March 2008.
Authorities say the Starbucks manager suffered a stress-induced asthma attack during the beating.
The verdict was a relief to Conroyโs family.
โWe were hoping it would be the same, because that would have made it even more painful had it been less,โ said Conroyโs father.
Alston and another teen pleaded guilty to third-degree murder.
Two others were convicted of third-degree murder and a third was convicted of involuntary manslaughter.
A judge sentenced Alston on Thursday. He also received to 2 ยฝ to 5 years for assaulting a student at school while on house arrest.
Alston says he's a โkid who made a mistake.โ
