Five-Week-Old Rushed to Hospital, Possible Child Abuse

"The baby looked limp and blue": Neighbor

A five-week-old baby is fighting for his life after being rushed to the hospital Friday.

The baby, whose name is Jaden, is in critical condition at St. Christopher's Hospital with cracked ribs, bruises to his face, a fractured right femur, and brain injuries, police said. He was in cardiac arrest when he was picked up at a Tacony rowhouse on Ditman Street near Devereaux Ave. shortly before noon Friday, his tiny legs dangling blue and limp.

"To see that baby lying there like that.. It was a shame, it was disgusting," a neighbor who saw the baby being carried away told NBCPhiladelphia.

Denise Truitt, the baby's grandmother, said her daughter and son-in-law would never hurt the child, who has an 18-month-old sister named Madison. She says the little boy was sleeping in the bedroom and when the parents woke up and noticed the baby wasn't breathing, they called 911.

Truitt suggested the family dog may have been responsible.

"We do know that the dog jumped on him two weeks ago. Whether that caused the injuries, I don't know," she told NBCPhiladelphia.

The case has been classified as a case of child abuse, according to doctors at St. Christopher's Hospital.

Police and the Department of Human Services are investigating.
