Firefighters Rescue Man After Car Plunges Into Ravine

Firefighters had to cut a driver out of his vehicle early Monday morning after the car veered off the road in a wooded area in Philadelphia and plunged into a ravine.

The vehicle also took out power lines in the crash, police said. PECO crews arrived at the scene, on Falls Road near Conshohocken Avenue near Philadelphia's Wynnefield Heights neighborhood, to cut power and repair the downed lines.

Rescuers were able to cut the man out of the car after a short time. Police said the driver told them that he was on a steep hill, and another driver crossed over into his lane, coming toward him head-on, causing him to veer, lose control and fly off the road.

The driver was awake and alert as firefighters put him on a stretch and loaded him into an ambulance to take him to an area hospital.
