Faculty, Coaches at State-Owned Universities Move Closer to Strike

Faculty and athletic coaches in the state-owned system of higher education, including West Chester University and Cheyney University, moved a step closer to a strike Thursday after the Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties (APSCUF) said members will cast votes to authorize a strike next month.

The Daily Local News reported that faculty members could cast votes to authorize a strike from Sept. 7-9, and athletic coaches from Sept. 14-15.

The decision is a move frequently made during contract negotiations before classes are set to begin in the spring semester. Both sides said they hope to avoid a strike.
