Explosive Tossed Inside NE Philly Home, Man in Critical: Police

A man suffered severe burns during the small explosion inside his home

Philadelphia Police say someone threw an explosive inside a house on the 6800 block of Vandike Street in Northeast Philadelphia. Investigators say it may have been tossed through a window.

Firefighters were called to the scene just after 9:00 a.m. Friday to put out the flames inside the home.

A 42-year-old man was inside the house at the time and suffered severe burns. Police say he was burned on his face, torso and arms and is in critical condition at Aria Torresdale Hospital.

The fire is under investigation. There's no word on what type of explosive was used.
