Employees Tied Up, Customer Assaulted During Bensalem Armed Robbery

The owner of a collectables store and one of his employees were tied up by middle-aged armed men during a robbery in Bensalem Tuesday afternoon, according to police. A customer who walked in during the robbery was also tied up and assaulted, officials said.

A 10-inch knife left behind by one of the men is being examined as police search for the suspects who walked into the Coin and Collectable store in the Bensalem Plaza Shopping Center around 3 p.m. and used zip ties to tie up the store's owner and one of his employees before tying up and assaulting a customer who interrupted the crime, said police.

"I really thought for a second someone was playing a game on me, but then as he pushed me down, I realized this is not a game," said the store's owner.

The middle-aged duo used a hammer to smash glass cases containing antique silver dollars before swiping them and running from the Street Road store, investigators said.

The coins, according the owner, are worth about $5,000.

One of the men used a pipe to threaten the employee, said police. The other, the knife left at the store.

Both suspects were described as white men. One was bald and was last seen wearing black sunglasses. The second had brown wavy hair and facial hair and was heavy set, investigators said.

Bensalem Police are urging anyone with information to call 215-633-3719.
