A hit-and-run driver who killed a woman was street racing on Roosevelt Boulevard, according to police.

The woman, who was in her early 30s, was hit as she tried to cross the Boulevard at Rising Sun Avenue in the Feltonville section of the city. It happened early Wednesday morning.

Witnesses who tried to help the victim said the car that hit her was racing alongside another car and both took off after the accident. Police are looking for either a late model Oldsmobile or Pontiac Bonneville. The woman died at the scene.

Traffic on the Boulevard was shut down for hours during the accident investigation.
