2 Deer Rescued From Abandoned Well

Game commission officials say two 8-point bucks were rescued after falling down an abandoned well in northeastern Pennsylvania.

The state commission says a hunter in Susquehanna County spotted the animals Tuesday afternoon in a 7-foot-deep well in Springville Township.

County wildlife conservation officer Richard Briggs helped disassemble portions of the well from the top down to allow better access to the deer.

Then, he said, he and other workers looped a rope around the antlers of the deer one by one and pulled the animals to safety.

The commission says the deer ran off, a little wobbly but otherwise unharmed _ and the well was then immediately filled.
