1 Dies in South Philadelphia Fire

A deadly fire broke out late Thursday night in an apartment in South Philadelphia, fire officials tell NBC10.

Firefighters battled heavy flames around 11 p.m. at a home located at the 2500 block of South Warnock Street.

There was heavy fire on the fourth floor and heavy smoke on the second and third floors, officials said.

In an interview, a neighbor was unaware that anyone was home in the burning apartment. But firefighters later found a person's body inside the home.

The cause and manner of death remain under investigation.
