South Jersey Schools Put on Lockdown After Custodian Finds Bullet

Police put two South Jersey schools on lockdown Tuesday morning delaying an early dismissal for students before Christmas break after a custodian found a bullet outside the school.

The Mantua and Harrison Township Police Departments investigated as Clearview Middle School and Clearview High School in Mullica Hill, Gloucester County were put on lockdown shortly before planned noon dismissal, according to a message posted to the Clearview Regional School District website.

β€œPlease note that all students and staff are safe,” read the message.

"A maintenance worker found one singular live .22 caliber round outside the (media center) entrance," said Harrison Township Police Lt. Ron Cundey. " ... it's possible it's been there for a while."

Cundey said that no threats were made against the school and the school was searched as a precautionary measure.

The district warned parents that dismissal would be delayed until after 1 p.m. They urged parents to not rush to campus to pick up their high schoolers but rather allow the students to go home on the bus or drive home as normal.
