Police Arrest Dozens of Would-Be Buyers as Camden Battles Heroin

As a South Jersey city fights heroin, police arrested dozens of people and most of the alleged buyers aren’t from the city.

Camden County Police arrested 41 people – ages ranging from 19 to 51 – trying to purchase drugs from undercover officers in the Chestnut and Baring streets area during a β€œdrug reversal operation” Thursday morning, said the Camden County Police Department.

Of the drug busts, 90 percent of the people came from other communities, said police. Each person faces drugs charges. Besides the arrests, police also impounded 10 vehicles.

The drug arrests come on the heels of 55 overdoses – four deaths – in Camden in just 10 days.

Camden officials urged drug users and their families dealing with addiction to visit the Camden County Addiction Awareness Task Force website or call the CRISIS hotline at 877-266-8222.
