Arrest Made in Shooting Death of South Jersey Mom

A South Jersey man was arrested in the shooting death of a young mother who was an innocent bystander.

Ralph Peter Jamison, 22, was arrested Friday and charged with murder, aggravated assault with a firearm and other related offenses. Police say Jamison was the man who opened fire during a drive-by shooting in Bridgeton, New Jersey back on August 11.

Quanny Bessix, 20, was outside her Cohansey Street home when the shooting occurred around 9:25 p.m. She was the only person struck in the shooting and died about four hours later at a hospital. Police say she was not the intended target.

According to her mother, Bessix's last words were, "I'm hit! I'm hit! Tell my family I love them!"

Family members also say the young mother had finished her first day working at McDonald's only hours before her death.
