Police have made an arrest in a hit-and-run accident that injured a woman and her children.

On April 25 at 1:30 p.m., a 46-year-old Bryn Mawr woman was crossing Lancaster Avenue at Bryn Mawr Avenue  with her 5-year-old twins. Suddenly, police say, they were struck by a black Ford F-150 pickup truck. Police say the truck did not stop at the scene and continued westbound on Lancaster Avenue.

The mother and her children were taken to Bryn Mawr Hospital. One child suffered a skull fracture and fractures to her left hip and pelvis. She was transferred to the Nemours/Alfred l. DuPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington but has since been released. The mother and her other child suffered minor injuries.

Police say the pickup truck was spotted parking in the parking lot of Bryn Mawr College’s”West House” on Wyndon Avenue in Bryn Mawr a little over an hour after the accident. The parking lot is located about half a mile north of the crash scene.

Police interviewed the registered owner of the truck, 27-year-old Stephen Groch of Havertown. Groch claimed his vehicle was stolen, according to officials. After an investigation however, police determined that the vehicle had not been tampered with or damaged by theft. Police also determined that Groch was near the crash site just moments after the hit-and-run.

On Wednesday, police arrested Groch. He is charged with accidents involving death or physical injury and other related offenses.
