12-Year-Old Boy Shoots Firework at Woman: Cops

Police say the Smyrna, DE boy threw firework at passing car.

It seems like every Fourth of July there are several firework related incidents, but a 12-year-old Smyrna, Del. boy may be the youngest to be charged with assault after the holiday.

According to the Delaware News Journal, police made the arrest Tuesday night after they say he intentionally discharged a firework that injured a 23-year-old woman in a passing car with minor burns. The incident happened around 10 p.m. on Monday near the Spruance Liquor store on Smyrna Clayton Blvd, the News Journal reports.

The woman was treated on the scene, but police tell the News Journal that the boy has been charged with third-degree assault, reckless exploding and possession of fireworks.

The boy was released into parental custody.
