A man is dead and another is fighting for his life after a car accident in Bear, Delaware.

It happened Saturday night around 8:47 p.m. Police say Joseph Denham, 27, of Newark, was driving a 1997 Honda Accord westbound on US 40 in the right lane near Holly Avenue. Suddenly two men who were walking westbound on the shoulder of US 40 entered the right lane directly in front of the Accord, according to investigators. Both men were struck by the vehicle and thrown to the ground.

Timothy Young, 35, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim, Jason Atkinson, 34, was taken to Christiana Hospital. He is currently in critical condition.

Denham was not injured in the accident. Police continue to investigate.
