2 Rutgers Students Withdraw After Sex Tape Suicide

Both are accused of live streaming a classmate's sexual encounter with another man.

Two Rutgers students have withdrawn from the university following the suicide of classmate Tyler Clementi.

Dharun Ravi and Molly Wei are accused of live streaming Clementi, Ravi’s roommate, having a sexual encounter with another man in September.

Authorities believe the webcast lead Clementi to jump to his death off the George Washington Bridge.

Ravi’s attorney Steven Altman says that withdrawing from Rutgers assures that neither student will face university disciplinary hearings.

The attorney told The Home News Tribune of East Brunswick that his client plans on enrolling at a new school.

Both freshmen are charged with two counts of invasion of privacy, although Ravi is facing two additional counts for allegedly using the hidden webcam to tape his roommate in a previous sexual encounter two days before the live stream, according to police.

Prosecutors are considering whether to charge Ravi and Wei with a hate crime.
