The American Red Cross says striking employees delayed a blood delivery.
Red Cross spokesman Anthony Tornetta says members of Teamsters Local 929 had to be told Thursday that a 2-year-old child's life depended on a blood delivery before they would get out of the way.
The Red Cross is seeking a court order limiting the union's disruptions, he said.
Chief shop steward Carl London says the union has no intention of putting the public at risk, adding that the union members all have families.
The union represents about 110 employees who pack, ship and deliver blood to Philadelphia-area hospitals and help at blood drives.
The strike, which began Thursday, does not affect Red Cross disaster services. That work is handled by another Red Cross branch.
