For women faced with highly aggressive breast-cancer tumors, a mastectomy might be the best life-saving option they have. But it can also be an emotionally scarring one, leading to things like grief, depression, negative body image, challenges with intimacy, fear of cancer recurrence, and even death anxiety.

But there is hope. That’s because today, more and more women who have had mastectomies are undergoing breast reconstructive surgery, which can make a woman’s chest look and feel balanced and also promote a healthy body image. In fact, a recent study in Detroit and Los Angeles reported that 42 percent of mastectomy patients also underwent reconstructive surgery.

So what are your treatment options and what kind of follow-up care should you expect after undergoing a mastectomy? To find out, register for Breast Reconstruction after Cancer Surgery, a free webinar from the MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper University. Taking place at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 25th, the webinar will feature experts Dr. Andrew Newman, a plastic and reconstructive surgeon at Cooper University Health Care who specializes in breast reconstruction, and Dr. Catherine Loveland Jones, breast surgeon at MD Anderson Cancer Center specializing in advanced tissue-sparing breast surgery, lymph node surgery, sentinel node biopsies, and breast cancer risk assessment counseling and monitoring.
