Coons Gets GOP Support

A former state chief justice and a former congressman are among a group of Delaware Republicans supporting Democrat Chris Coons for U.S. Senate.

The Coons campaign announced Tuesday that more than 70 Delaware Republicans are supporting him instead of GOP candidate and tea party favorite Christine O'Donnell in the Senate race.

The list of Republicans backing Coons is led by former Supreme Court justice Norman Veasey and former GOP congressman Thomas Evans Jr., who lost a re-election bid in 1982 following a sex scandal involving Washington, D.C., lobbyist Paula Parkinson.

A spokesman for O'Donnell said she will hold an event Wednesday with Democrats who are supporting her instead of Coons.
