Urban Outfitters said a key sales figure rose 3 percent during its critical two-month holiday selling period, helped by strong performances from its Free People and Anthropologie brands.
The company said Thursday that the increase in comparable sales for its retail division included direct-to-consumer results. At Free People, the sales climbed 21 percent, while Anthropologie turned in an 11 percent rise. The Urban Outfitters brand posted a 6 percent drop.
The Philadelphia-based retailer also owns the BHLDN and Terrain brands.
Urban Outfitters Inc. said that total revenue for the two months ended Dec. 31 climbed 8 percent to $716 million. Wholesale segment sales climbed 21 percent.
The company said comparable sales for its retail unit increased 7 percent for the 11 months ended Dec. 31, while wholesale sales climbed 19 percent. Total revenue rose 11 percent to $2.9 billion.
Urban Outfitters said it opened 36 new stores in the 11-month period.
Its stock added 3 cents to $37.90 in morning trading.
