Tax deadbeats—Mayor Nutter will find you. If you own a business and owe taxes,  your name may be on the list of top business tax delinquents.

Close to 60 businesses and nearly 40 associated officers were added to the list Monday, totaling another $5.2 million owed to the city, according to a press release.

Deadbeat businesses range from defunct law firms  to  preschools  to distributors. New China Inc. tops the list, owing the city nearly $4 million. Bainbridge Street Gym owes more than $364,000 in back taxes.

This is the third list to be published since Nutter set out to collect every dime owed to the city.

“Our tax delinquency efforts have generated an additional $4 million in business tax revenue since we began publishing names last November,” Nutter said. “Collecting every last dollar that is owed to the City is especially important in these tough economic times as we ask everybody to make some sacrifice to get us through this crisis.”

But, some tax payers, or should we say tax avoiders don’t like the initiative. Local attorney Robert Gamburg knows about these lists all too well. After  he was outed publicly for owing back taxes, he got into a bit of a spat with Nutter on the street.

Combined, the lists include 190 businesses and 149 associated officers totaling $53.3 million in back taxes.
