Despite a letter sent to Philadelphia customers two weeks ago saying Comcast would not make any installations or in-home service calls during the papal visit, the Philly-based broadcast giant is making 24 technicians available for emergency calls – and they'll be traveling by bike.
The two dozen workers will travel to calls in the traffic box, where vehicles aren't allowed to operate. The technicians are not taking scheduled appointments, but will be available to restore unexpected service problems.
"This event is kind of unprecedented," said Miles Pellegrini, vice president of operations for Comcast Freedom Region. "We’re not strangers to projects and events of this magnitude but this is a unique situation in Philadelphia. We’ve pulled from a lot of different experiences, like the Super Bowl or storm events."
