Jobless Rate Drops to 6-Year Low in Pa.

Pennsylvania's jobless rate dropped to a six-year low in October.

The state Department of Labor and Industry said Friday the seasonally adjusted rate last month was 5.4 percent.

That's down three-tenths of a percentage point from September.

It was also below the national rate of 5.8 percent.

Officials say total nonfarm jobs went up by 12,600 to more than 5.8 million.

That's the highest level since August 2008.

The largest movement in October was an increase of 5,500 jobs in trade, transportation and utilities.

One year ago, the state's unemployment rate was 7.1 percent.
