Kid, 10, Playing With Gun Shoots Self: Cops

Boy in stable condition with gunshot wound to his thumb after being shot on a Philly playground

A 10-year-old boy shot himself in the hand while playing with a gun at a Cobbs Creek playground Sunday afternoon, according to Philadelphia Police.

The accidental shooting happened around 3 p.m. at the Christy Recreation Center at 56th and Christian Streets.

Police say the 10-year-old victim was rushed to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in stable condition with a gunshot wound to his left thumb. He was treated and released.

Originally it was reported that an 11-year-old shot the shot victim but later police said the 10-year-old shot himself while playing with the gun.

No word yet on any possible charges.
