“Jack Ryan” Trailer Released: See Chris Pine and Keira Knightley in Action

After an 11-year hiatus from the big screen, America's favorite CIA spy is back.

The first trailer for "Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit" has hit the web, and by the looks of it, Paramount Pictures' highly anticipated reboot of the beloved franchise is in good hands.

Following in the footsteps of Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck before him, Chris Pine stars as a young Jack in an original story based on the character created by Tom Clancy, who sadly passed away this week.

Unlike the author's Cold War-era novels like "The Hunt for Red October" and "Patriot Games," through which our hero rose through the agency ranks, the teaser finds a young Jack just starting out his career post-9/11 and the war in Afghanistan.

Here, he's tapped for duty as part of a covert operation to stop a nefarious Russian (Kenneth Branagh) from wrecking the U.S. economy with a terrorist attack.

Kevin Costner plays Jack's handler, William Harper, a Clancy regular who recruits him for his mission. Keira Knightley is aboard as Ryan's ladylove, Cathy Ryan, who isn't exactly keen to learn her man is operational.

"This is geopolitics. It's not couples therapy," notes William.

Kenneth Branagh also directs the thriller from a script from David Koepp ("Jurassic Park," "War of the Worlds").

"Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit" is slated to hit theaters on Dec. 25, 2013.
