Stallone's Blood-lust Only Grows: Plans “Expendables” Sequel

Following his movie's stunning opening weekend take of $35 million -- including the male victory over Julia Roberts' spiritual festival that is "Eat Pray Love" -- Sylvester Stallone is already planning an "Expendables" sequel.

Stallone told The Hollywood Reporter he has a sequel painted out "in my mind's eye." This means two scary things: 1) Stallone is subtly saying he reads Shakespeare 2) He looks to spoil another movie weekend, no doubt another female-heavy film.

He even hinted that other faded, er.. um, mature action stars would be joining his group the next time around.

"So how do you get new people introduced into the group and how do you have some of the other people leaving?" he said. "Those are the challenges." We have a pretty good idea about how to get people to "leave" these blow-up fests if you really need help on that, Sly.

Stallone is already prepared for another critical drubbing, much like he took with this film. It just doesn't matter if those in need of a nostalgia-fix get their explosions and their muscles flexed.

"Most action films tend to rub people the wrong way," said Stallone. "This is not to disparage critics, but the more physical and brutal an action film is, the less well it is received."

So we can count on his next effort being along the same lines, which means it will have a high body count and that's about it. Which is fine. That's what August and Stallone films are supposed to be about these days. Stallone meanwhile has proven he can still pack a punch and fill a movie theater.

As he said: "If you are a star -- even a faded star -- the light never goes out. You just need to rekindle it."

Explosives don't hurt the effort either.
