Source: Eagles DT Beau Allen Passes Physical, Will Be Removed From NFI List

The Eagles are getting defensive tackle Beau Allen back a little earlier than first expected.

Allen on Friday passed his physical and will be removed from the non-football injury list, a league source confirmed to

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport first reported the news.

Allen has been on the non-football injury list since the start of training camp after tearing his pec while working out in the spring.

In his absence, second-year player Destiny Vaeao has really impressed the coaching staff as the top DT option off the bench.

Before the injury, the Eagles and Allen's representatives had reportedly been working on a contract extension. This is the final year of Allen's rookie contract.

Once officially removed from the NFI, Allen will have a few days to prepare for the Eagles' final preseason game on Thursday against the Jets.

Allen's return might also complicate the 53-man roster. DT Justin Hamilton had been performing well over the last few weeks but now Allen will need to have one of the 53 spots.

Heading into the spring, Allen appeared to be the Eagles' replacement for the departed Bennie Logan. Then the Eagles traded for Tim Jernigan, who will start next to Fletcher Cox.

But Allen still gives the Eagles a solid and proven option in their rotation. The team will be happy to have him back for the start of the regular season.
