Report: Dak Prescott to Remain Cowboys' Starter Vs. Eagles in Week 8

Dak Prescott hasn't give the Cowboys much of a choice but to keep him in the starting role and that will be the case in Week 8, when Dallas returns from its bye to host the Eagles.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Prescott, not Tony Romo, will start against the Birds. Thus, the first of possibly many Prescott-Carson Wentz showdowns will be on Sunday Night Football.

Before Prescott began setting rookie records and turning heads, there had been some thought Romo could return from his latest back injury after the Cowboys' Week 7 bye. But Prescott has been terrific, breathing fresh air into a team that's won five straight games, the last two against quality teams.

Six games into his NFL career, Prescott has completed 68.7 percent of his passes for 1,486 yards with seven touchdowns and one interception. He also has three rushing TDs.

It's unclear when Romo will be healthy enough to even be considered. Per Rapoport, he may not be ready for Week 9 against the Browns either.

Many have written Romo off at this point because of the constant injuries that have beset him the last few years. Romo missed 12 games last season and has missed a quarter of the Cowboys' regular-season games the last six years. But he has been throwing lately and throwing well, according to wide receiver Cole Beasley, whose role has expanded with Prescott at the helm.

"[Romo's] still throwing as good as ever," Beasley told the Dallas Morning News this week. "His ball was coming just like normal, maybe even more. He's been working, man, he looked good when I was playing catch with him. His ball had a lot of velocity behind it. It wasn't just barely getting there or anything. He was cutting loose. He looked good."

He just might never look good enough to win his job back.
